July 15: Deadline for insurers to provide proposed 2027 premiums for health coverage

“According to early data, most health insurance companies are looking at increasing premiums on the Affordable Care Act exchange by as much as 10% to 20%. Nearly two dozen insurers are proposing increases by even more than that! That is on top of the staggering increases that Nebraskans and patients across the country are facing this year.

“Today is the final day for insurance companies to inform states of their plans. Already, we know enrollment in Nebraska is down by about 23% in 2026 compared to 2025. If these proposed premium increases hold, we expect to see another drop in 2027.

“This could have been avoided. It is due in large part to the votes of Nebraska’s entire House delegation allowing tax credits that made premiums more affordable simply expire. At a time when prices continue to rise across the board, Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood chose to let premiums skyrocket this year and likely will allow the trend to continue next year.”

-State Director Angie Lauritsen

“My household premium rose nearly $700 a month for this year. My husband and I cannot go without care, and I am already worried about how much more the cost could rise in terms of our budget for next year. This trend is simply unsustainable.”
