Join Nebraska For Us for a special Grandparents Appreciation Brunch in Bellevue. We’ll enjoy good food and good conversation while connecting with one another about the economic issues affecting grandparents and their families, including the rising cost of groceries and health care and the importance of protecting Social Security and Medicare.

At a time when these programs face threats that could make it harder for older Nebraskans to afford the care and security they have earned, it’s more important than ever to make sure grandparents’ voices are heard.

A month into the school year, educators know what their classrooms need most. Let’s help them get it.

Rising costs are putting pressure on everyone in our school communities. Families are paying more for groceries, school supplies, and other everyday essentials, while schools and educators are being asked to stretch limited resources further.

Join Nebraska For Us and the Omaha Education Association for a school supply drive to help fill some of those gaps. Every donation helps take one more expense off an educator’s plate and gives them the supplies they need to support their students.

We’re collecting: Kleenex, Lysol wipes, hand sanitizer, folders, composition notebooks, spiral notebooks, educator notebooks, bulletin board supplies, Sharpies, markers, crayons, pencils, sharpeners, pens, fun pens, highlighters, Post Its, stickers, containers, gum, mints, chocolate, snacks, and indoor recess games and activities.

The first month of school is in the books, and teachers know better than anyone what their classrooms need. Join Nebraska For Us and the Omaha Education Association for an evening of good food, appreciation, and a classroom supplies giveaway!

Meet Nebraska For Us: We’re a local coalition of working class people focused on federal economic policies that uplift low and middle income Nebraskans and their families. We believe that the people most affected by economic policy should have a voice in shaping it, and that includes educators who see the impact of those policies in their classrooms every day.

Changes to programs like SNAP and Medicaid don’t just affect individual families. They show up in our schools too, as families lose access to food and health care and schools are asked to fill the gaps. Cuts to SNAP can also affect an entire school’s access to free and reduced price school meals, making these policies something educators see the impact of every day. That’s why we’re excited to get to know your union and learn from what you’re seeing in your schools and communities.

We’ll have a brief presentation about Nebraska For Us and the policy changes we’re seeing that are affecting students and their families. Then enjoy Javi’s tacos, connect with fellow OEA members, and pick up classroom supplies to help make the school year a little easier.
