Nebraska For Us statement as House begins voting to strike down tariffs

“It took a year and continued price hikes before enough members of the Republican House majority sided with the Democratic minority to finally begin taking meaningful votes on tariffs that have already harmed Nebraska’s working families, farmers, small businesses, and so much more.

“Today’s vote is the first of many steps to stem the tide of rising prices. These increases were enacted by President Donald Trump and affirmed by House Republicans including Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood multiple times as the working class has been forced to pay the price. Tonight, Rep. Bacon and five other Republicans voted to repeal Canada’s tariffs while Reps. Flood and Smith voted to keep them in place.

“New data shows American households spent an additional $1,000 in 2025 due to President Trump’s tariffs and the lack of action from Nebraska’s entire federal delegation until now. These conditions led Congressman Bacon to describe Nebraska as experiencing a ‘recession economy.’ Unfortunately, the damage is already done, but there is still time for all of Nebraska’s lawmakers to do the right thing on future tariff votes.”
