Nebraska For Us travels to Lincoln to discuss importance of protecting health care access
Local coalition holds first Lincoln-based gathering to focus on harms of cuts as prices rise
LINCOLN, Nebraska (April 9, 2026)—Nebraska For Us, in partnership with the Nebraska Civic Engagement Table, welcomed guests Wednesday for a wide-ranging discussion on the importance of protecting access to health care.
The meeting at Meadowlark Coffee & Espresso focused on how 2025’s Republican Tax Law, supported by Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood, has led to harmful cuts to Medicaid and new challenges to rural health care providers that rely on federal funds. Additionally, Nebraska’s federal delegation allowed Affordable Care Act health care tax credits to expire, forcing health care premiums to soar for tens of thousands of Nebraskans in 2026.
“We have built a great network of support in the Omaha metro area since 2023, and it is clear that the economy is affecting people more and more every day,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “It is exciting to bring Nebraska For Us and our message into Lincoln to meet with people who just want to be heard, while also getting a better understanding of the economic challenges they are facing right now.”
“This is the hardest economic crisis I have ever lived through,” Lincoln resident Amanda said. “I have no extra money, and I am unable to make ends meet while experiencing longstanding health challenges."
Nebraska For Us continues to call on Congressmen Bacon and Flood to reverse health care cuts and work to bring costs down, especially as President Trump’s 2027 budget requests include further cuts related to health care access and providers.
