Nebraska For Us urges focus on lower costs ahead of Congressman Flood's Norfolk town hall
NORFOLK, Nebraska (May 26, 2026)—As Congressman Mike Flood prepares to hold a town hall in Madison County Tuesday night, Nebraska For Us is calling attention to his record on key cost of living issues while also urging him to prioritize policies that lower prices for hardworking Nebraskans who are struggling to pay the bills.
“From rolling back tariffs and providing refunds to ending the war and eventually lowering gas prices, there are many moves our leaders could take to begin making a difference,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “We were promised lower prices well over a year ago. Instead, Nebraska’s leaders have cast votes in a manner that has only done the opposite.”
In 2025, Congressman Flood voted for massive cuts to Medicaid and SNAP to fund tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy while also allowing health care tax credits to expire. These factors, combined with soaring gas and grocery prices, have created significant struggles for people in our area. Now, inflation is approaching the 4.0% mark and affordability is increasingly out of reach.
“This is the hardest economic crisis I have ever lived through, and I do not see it getting better anytime soon,” Lincoln resident Amanda said. “I have no extra money, and I have not felt heard by my congressman despite multiple town halls. People are making their voices heard, but nothing seems to be getting better."
“Health care costs just keep going up,” Bellevue veteran Myron said. “The increases in health insurance premiums are only getting worse, and relief feels like it is virtually impossible at this point.”
“Chaos from tariffs, rising expenses, and now the war—which has impacted fertilizer and fuel costs—are creating economic turmoil for those in production agriculture,” said Don Hutchens, former Nebraska Corn Board executive director and farm owner. “Farmers are price takers, not price setters. Agriculture is challenging enough with growing competition from Brazil and Argentina. Congress needs to address these issues versus considering allowing billions of dollars going toward ballrooms, arches, reflecting pools and paying those who tried to destroy our nation’s Capitol and injured police officers.”
Even during this recess period, Nebraska For Us continues calling on our federal delegation to end the gridlock and focus on solutions that will bring positive outcomes for working class Nebraskans. Our hope is that Tuesday night’s town hall will begin to address the very deep financial pain people are feeling on a daily basis.
