Nebraska For Us holds Community Coffee discussion, calls attention to Congressman Don Bacon’s vote for cuts in Republican Tax Law

OMAHA, Nebraska (August 7, 2025)—Nebraska For Us welcomed guests for a community-oriented discussion on the direct and indirect impacts of harmful funding cuts on the way following last month’s passage of the Republican Tax Law. Following last week’s in-person CD2 Community Town Hall, the conversation transitioned into a more personable and informal environment.

From SNAP to health care, education, Social Security, and housing, attendees shared their thoughts and concerns about what they see as specific threats to those sectors and programs as a result of recently passed legislation.

“This was our first Community Coffee event since the president signed the Republican Tax Law, and compared to our past gatherings, people have gained a wealth of knowledge about the programs that are actively being targeted” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “The more Nebraska For Us can continue informing the community and fostering advocacy with the hope of holding our lawmakers like Congressman Don Bacon accountable. At the same time, we continue encouraging him and our entire federal delegation to change their tune and vote in a manner that supports working class and middle income Nebraskans.”

Nebraska For Us continues to focus on federal economic policies that affect those specific populations. In the weeks ahead, there will be more events calling attention to some of these programs that are under threat and facing potential cuts. On Saturday, August 16, former Social Security Administration Commissioner Martin O’Malley will join Nebraska For Us and other partner organizations to urge support for the protection of Social Security as the program marks its 90th anniversary.
