Nebraska For Us statement as government shutdown shelves jobs report
“At the beginning of each month, we would ordinarily expect to see the latest data on the previous month’s unemployment outlook in the United States. The government shutdown has put a stop to that, for now. What we do know today is that a private report from ADP showed a LOSS of more than 30,000 jobs in September—the worst performance in nearly three years.
“It is clear that tariffs are hurting the economy, in terms of prices, jobs, and many other factors. Even without the latest detailed economic data, that pain can be felt all around us. Prices continue to rise with no end in sight, and the stress of that is made worse by concerns about the job market.
“Those price hikes are translating into the cost of health care, too. The government shut down because Republicans in Congress refused to lower healthcare costs, and costs will only continue to go up unless action is taken. It is time for Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation to get back to work, bring down costs and reopen the government.”
