Nebraska For Us supports local businesses participating in national general strike, calls on federal delegation to reassess funding priorities
“Businesses across the Omaha metro are joining a national movement today, closing their doors to bring attention to ICE’s recent actions. They are also protesting the 2025 Republican Tax Law’s dramatic increase in ICE funding while large swaths of the working class lose access to programs like Medicaid, SNAP, and other forms of vital assistance. The ultra-wealthy are receiving massive tax breaks at the same time. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy—creating jobs, providing goods and services, and offering opportunities to our hardworking neighbors.
“Our view remains unchanged. Tax dollars should be helping people, not hurting them. A new Fox News poll shows nearly six in 10 Americans feel ICE is far too aggressive in its tactics. Our federal delegation voted in a manner that increased funding for that aggression. Those funds should be put to better use, whether it’s for SNAP, Medicaid, or tax credits to make health care more affordable.
“People do not like what they are seeing happening on American streets right now. Citizens have been killed at the hands of the federal government, while others are living in fear when they should be able to make a living and thrive. Lives are at stake, so it is time for Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood to prioritize the economic well-being of us all and do something.”
