Nebraska For Us calls on federal delegation to reassess spending priorities following ICE’s excessive conduct
“Following the killing of Alex Pretti, it is time for our state’s federal delegation to take a good hard look at its priorities. In the last year, Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood voted to cut hundreds of billions of dollars from programs like SNAP and Medicaid and give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy while simultaneously choosing to drastically increase funding for entities like ICE that are broadly unpopular. ICE is creating fear—leaving Americans terrorized, assaulted, and even killed on our own streets.
“Our representatives have important choices to make, and we’ve seen them change their minds on funding decisions before. Nebraska For Us calls on our leaders to ensure the primary aim for our tax dollars is to help people through benefits that focus on the working class. We should not be using funds to scare and attack people. Accountability matters at all levels, especially for the branch of government responsible for appropriating funds.
“Policy choices indicate what is important to us, and as Nebraskans are struggling to pay the bills, we believe it is best to use taxpayer dollars to bring down people’s costs so they can thrive rather than just make it to their next paycheck. Our federal delegation must sort out its priorities and put working people first.”
