Nebraska For Us statement as January layoffs hit highest level since 2009

“January layoffs are at their highest level since the Great Recession, according to a new report published this morning. The economy continues to face pressure from policies like tariffs. At the same time, working class Nebraskans—including many worried about job security—are barely paying their bills as it is.

“Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood need to seriously tackle affordability challenges as the job market and consumer sentiment are getting worse. Cutting Medicaid and SNAP while allowing health care premium tax credits to expire as the ultra-wealthy get tax breaks just adds insult to injury. Our federal delegation must sort out its priorities and put working people first.”
