New report finds Bacon-supported Republican Tax Scam would drastically increase medical debt

OMAHA, Nebraska (June 27, 2025)—Today, Nebraska For Us is responding to a new report from Third Way that finds hundreds of billions of dollars in cuts to programs like Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act could increase medical debt for families by up to nearly $23,000, while the number of people facing medical debt could grow by more than 5.4 million. Congressman Don Bacon voted in favor of massive Medicaid cuts last month that would take healthcare from over 26,000 Nebraska families and has defended the move in recent weeks.

“Working class and middle income Nebraskans are scared about what these tax breaks for the wealthy mean for their own pocketbooks,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “Analysis after analysis shows the working class will lose wealth as those in the top 1% gain it. That is wrong—especially at a time when so many of our neighbors and friends are just fighting to get by.”
