Senate fails to advance plan to make health care more affordable, pressure builds on House

OMAHA, Nebraska (December 11, 2025)—Today, Nebraska For Us is calling attention to the failed Senate vote to extend tax credits to make health care plans more affordable and urging Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood to support extending the tax credits for three years through a discharge petition.

“The House was nowhere to be found for nearly two months, and we now find ourselves barreling toward a deadline that could mean hundreds or thousands of more dollars per month coming out of working families budgets," Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “The affordability crisis is getting worse by the day, and the failure of our leaders to act is only going to compound the problem.”

“Families like mine are facing very difficult decisions, including the possibility of going without health care due to how high these premiums are soaring,” Omaha resident Morgan Rye-Craft said. “I’m deeply frustrated that Congressman Bacon is not seriously addressing this source of stress we are all facing.”

Nebraska For Us continues to call on Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood to make that extension permanent. In the meantime, they should sign onto a discharge petition that needs just a few more signatures to force a vote on a three-year extension. Open enrollment ends in just four days in order for people to have a 2026 plan in place beginning January 1.
