Nebraska For Us honors grandparents with appreciation brunch gathering

Local coalition holds brunch event with emphasis on costs facing seniors

BELLEVUE, Nebraska (September 14, 2026)—With Sunday marking the official National Grandparents Day, Nebraska For Us spent Monday morning giving back to local grandparents with an appreciation brunch as we discussed the unique economic challenges facing our area’s senior population.

From Social Security and Medicare, to rising gas prices and grocery bills, attendees who gathered with us in Bellevue shared a wide range of economic anxieties that are affecting their daily lives.

“Once again, we saw several new faces join us at a time when more Nebraskans than ever are concerned about how they are going to keep up with rising expenses,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “The subject that seemed to generate the most interest was that of health care—whether it is Medicare, Medicaid, the Affordable Care Act, or private health insurance plans. No matter where people are getting their coverage, it seems most can agree their plans cost too much and do not cover enough.”

As the rising cost-of-living and affordability crisis is felt across the board, it is especially true for the aging population. From Social Security to Medicare, Medicaid and other programs either at risk or undergoing cuts, there are concerns about what it means for Nebraskans living on a fixed and limited income.

Nebraska For Us was proud to welcome nearly two dozen grandparents over the course of the morning to share their thoughts as we shared our appreciation for what they do.
