Nebraska For Us responds to rural clinic closure due to GOP Tax Scam, calls on Congressman Bacon to change course and vote no

“While Curtis Medical Center might be the first to close, it likely will not be the last if Congressman Don Bacon votes to cut Medicaid by over $1 trillion today. The program is a lifeline—especially for our state’s rural communities. Sadly, Congressman Bacon is downplaying legitimate concerns and burying his head in the sand as medical experts across the board have been sounding the alarm about the cuts he says he will vote for today.

“First, Bacon said he wouldn’t cut Medicaid at all. Then he assured us he would not cut more than $500 billion from Medicaid. Since then, he voted to slash it by over $800 billion in May. With today’s upcoming vote, he is on track to cross that previous ‘red line’ by more than double, ripping access to healthcare from even more Nebraskans.

Local advocates have warned more than 100,000 Nebraskans could lose health coverage and six hospitals could close because of this bill. The time for Congressman Bacon to do the right thing and keep his word on Medicaid cuts is NOW.”
