Nebraska For Us statement as costs rise and hunger survey is shelved
“Ending a survey on hunger will not make the issue go away—especially as cuts to SNAP will lead to even more families going without basic necessities. We have heard directly from countless food pantries and nonprofits that the need in our community has grown month by month and year by year.
“We continue to call on Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation to undo federal cuts to food stamps that would impact thousands of Nebraskans. To make matters worse, state senators have told us that the majority of lawmakers in Lincoln are not prepared to deal with these funding cuts at the state level.
“We should be finding ways to help hardworking Nebraskans, not hurt them. As prices continue to rise, this is just the latest example of pretending the issue doesn’t exist rather than addressing it head-on. The government is just days away from shutting down, making matters even more fraught. The time for action is now.”
