Nebraska For Us statement as first major open enrollment deadline hits without passage of solution to lower insurance premiums
“For months, Nebraska For Us has heard from people around the metro who are seeing their monthly premiums increase by hundreds of dollars per month—a jump many of us simply cannot afford.
“Prices continue to rise, and Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood have not signed the discharge petition for a three-year extension to make these premiums more affordable for working class and middle income Nebraskans. From health care to tariffs, groceries, energy, rent, and more, overall affordability remains the biggest challenge we all face.
“In the new year, Nebraskans will face higher health care costs or lose coverage entirely. The Nebraska federal delegation has made its priorities clear this year: cutting Medicaid and SNAP to pay for tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy while refusing to lower health care costs. The Republican Tax Law put us on this path, and if nothing changes, the affordability issues we face in 2026 will be even worse than 2025.”
