Nebraska For Us statement as House prepares to vote on amendment that threatens vital economic programs
“With massive tax breaks for the ultra-wealthy taking effect in the last year, Republicans in Congress—including Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood—have voted to approve steep cuts to programs like SNAP and Medicaid. Those moves target working class Nebraskans who need relief the most, not even higher costs.
“Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood voting for the amendment following these cuts would put us at risk of seeing even more cuts to SNAP, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and a host of other programs—just so the top 1% doesn’t have to pay its fair share. New data out this morning shows wholesale inflation rising faster than expected, making matters only worse.
“Nebraskans are paying nearly 30% higher gas prices than they were just a month ago, and other prices continue to rise. Our federal delegation should vote against putting vital programs for people in need at risk. Life keeps getting more expensive, and any further cuts would only make the problem worse.”
