Nebraska For Us protests soaring prices and Congressman Don Bacon's role in it

Local coalition holds demonstration near Memorial Park for evening rush

OMAHA, Nebraska (August 11, 2026)—With the House’s August recess well underway, Nebraska For Us held a protest on the Dodge Street Overpass near Memorial Park for the height of the evening rush hour home from work and school. Nebraska For Us focused on Congressman Don Bacon’s votes that have led to rising costs, two weeks after holding a similar demonstration outside of Congressman Mike Flood’s most recent town hall in Lincoln.

Since casting a key vote to approve the Republican Tax Law in July 2025, Congressman Bacon’s decision has allowed prices for hardworking Nebraskans to rise roughly $3,500 a year. At the same time, health insurance premiums are getting more expensive while tariffs and the Iran war have contributed to higher gas prices and soaring grocery bills. People simply can’t keep up.

“What is most concerning about these rising prices and the cuts associated with them is that the pain is just beginning for many Nebraskans, if not already getting worse,” Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen said. “Times are tough right now. We wanted to have our voices heard in a visible setting that helps get this important message across.”

New polling shows about 80% of consumers rate the economy poorly. The figure underscores the challenges many are running into as they just try to get by.

Nebraska For Us used the opportunity to also call attention to steep cuts Congressman Bacon has made to federal programs like SNAP and Medicaid that Nebraskans count on.
