Nebraska For Us statement as back-to-school costs rise for metro families

“At a time when costs continue to rise on just about everything, parents are now expecting to spend nearly $900 per child for back-to-school shopping. For many families, that is $900 they simply do not have. Making matters even more concerning, nearly half of all parents expect to go into debt just to get their kids ready to return to class.

“With tariffs creating uncertainty, inflation leading to further price hikes, and cuts to key programs like SNAP and Medicaid causing Nebraskans to tighten their budgets—we are feeling the pain from multiple angles. Votes from Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood have made these challenges all the more difficult for hardworking Nebraskans. This expensive season adds just one more layer of stress for people who cannot afford to take on more.”
