Nebraska For Us statement as District 1 race is called for Congressman Mike Flood

“In a district that has not been competitive in decades, the narrow margin underscores the very real economic pain Nebraskans are feeling from the grocery store to the gas pump and family farms to small businesses. Tariffs have put the squeeze on everyone, while cuts to programs like SNAP and Medicaid have begun filtering through the economy. All the while, health care costs keep on soaring, with anyone using the Affordable Care Act Marketplace seeing an increase in premiums after Republicans in Congress—including Mike Flood—let the tax credits expire.

“In the last year, Nebraska For Us has been across the district as we have spoken to farmers and ranchers in Norfolk struggling with tariffs, along with high diesel prices and other input costs. Additionally, we have supported a food pantry in Bellevue fighting to keep up with growing demand amid SNAP cuts, held community coffee events in Lincoln and Fremont, accepted donations across the district to help people in need, and held a silent protest outside Rep. Flood’s July town hall with signs calling attention to his votes to cut programs like SNAP, Medicaid, ACA tax credits and more.

“Moving forward, hardworking Nebraskans need real relief and solutions for continually rising costs. From putting an end to tariffs and ending the war in Iran, to reversing devastating cuts to SNAP and Medicaid that are beginning to be felt here at home—there are a wide range of options that should be tackled as soon as possible!”

-State Director Angie Lauritsen

“This year, I have lost access to my Medicaid and SNAP benefits after more than a decade of those programs keeping me alive. Despite my disability, the federal cuts and extensive paperwork have created utter chaos for myself and so many others who worry about where they will find their next meal or if they can afford to put gas in the tank. Congress needs to take steps to reverse these cuts for those who need this support, and our representatives must seriously address the cost-of-living crisis.”
