Nebraska For Us statement as tariff chaos hits one-year mark and costs skyrocket
“One year after the announcement of widespread, destructive, and illegal tariffs, we are seeing the impacts on multiple fronts as prices continue to rise. Gas has now hit $4 per gallon nationally due to the war, while import taxes have created additional uncertainty, chaos, and fear for small businesses in Nebraska.
“For months, Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood voted in support of allowing the tariffs to continue despite how much damage they were causing to the economy. Not only that, but other costs have continued to skyrocket as SNAP and Medicaid face deep cuts and health insurance premiums have soared due to their votes.
“We need Nebraska’s federal delegation to return the money stolen from constituents and stop the remaining tariffs. The ultra-wealthy and big corporations have received massive tax breaks while working class Nebraskans have been punished with higher prices. This needs to change!”
-State Director Angie Lauritsen
“We are far from living in the Golden Age. Tariffs have raised costs on everything from tractors and equipment to fertilizer and seed while destroying our export markets at the same time. We have lost markets that we will never get back. Now, the war in Iran is continuing to increase costs at a headspinning rate. On my farm, alone, this Trump-induced agricultural trainwreck is costing me an additional $50,000 for fertilizer! This is going to bankrupt family farmers, and the first ones to go will be our young farmers and families that are struggling with debt already. This is unsustainable. Stop hurting us.”
