Nebraska For Us statement as delayed CPI report draws doubts about data and government shutdown continues

“More than three weeks into the government shutdown, the report shows what we already know—prices continue to rise due to tariffs. The increases continue to squeeze working class and middle income Nebraskans just trying to pay their bills.

“Financial experts are already worried the data is incomplete due to the furlough of federal workers and the pausing of virtually all economic reports. Our concern turns to how bad data might lead to policy decisions that are not meeting the moment for members of our community who need relief.

“With dramatically rising health care costs at the center of this government shutdown, Congressman Don Bacon and our entire federal delegation need to get back to work, reopen the government, and bring down health care costs for all of us and reverse their votes for harmful tariffs, too.”
