Nebraska For Us statement as gas prices soar in Omaha metro and nationwide

“Recent global events have caused impacts halfway across the world for working class Nebraskans who are just trying to get by. On Monday, gas prices saw their largest one-day increase in the last four years, and analysts expect it to continue to rise in the coming days and weeks.

“While we know of the immediate impacts hitting drivers who are noticing the price hikes in real time, there are other downstream effects that could potentially come in the future. Those costs will hit lower earners the hardest. From the supply chain and the cost of shipping goods to home heating and grocery prices, we could soon see a continuation of price hikes that our leaders have allowed to continue.

“Nebraska’s federal delegation must work quickly to bring prices down—not up. Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood have voted to cut health care and food access to give tax breaks to the ultra-wealthy while also raising prices through tariffs. On top of that, they voted last year to cut tax credits leading to increased energy and utility costs. Gas prices soaring will only increase the pain. Failure to act now will leave us all paying the price.”
