Nebraska For Us statement as House Committee on Agriculture approves new Farm Bill
“At this point in time, the Farm Bill fails to fix the SNAP crisis created by the 2025 Republican Tax Law that Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood voted for—leading to massive cuts at a time when food prices keep going up and the demand at our area pantries only grows.
“It also does not do anything about the squeeze that tariffs have put on Nebraska’s farmers and ranchers who are the lifeblood of our state’s economy and driving up costs for all of us. Congressman Bacon voted in support of those tariffs multiple times despite recognizing their harm.
“As a member of the House Committee on Agriculture, he also opposed multiple amendments to repeal harmful SNAP cuts targeting veterans while also opposing restoring funding for school meals. The moves not only hurt local children but also takes away revenue from our state’s farmers. Congress has serious work to do before this bill is ready for primetime.”
-Nebraska For Us State Director Angie Lauritsen
“Simply put, the Farm Bill does not do nearly enough to support our members. It is merely a slight tune-up on a policy that needs a major overhaul. The cost of inputs keeps rising, and the tariffs have created a mountain of uncertainty for farmers and ranchers across the state. What is currently on the table will not get the job done for those of us just trying to take things day by day and dollar by dollar.”
