Nebraska For Us statement as tariff refund portal opens, causes confusion and headaches
“The tariff refund process is already off to a bumpy start as businesses are fighting to get their money back. The problem is it didn’t need to be this way. Prices are rising, people are paying more for health care, and businesses are making painful cuts to combat challenges in the current economy.
“Everyday Nebraskans are not eligible for direct relief. Neither are most small businesses nor farmers who have faced sharp increases in their operating costs directly tied to tariffs. Congressmen Don Bacon and Mike Flood allowed this to continue for far too long by voting in support of tariffs on multiple occasions last year. The priority of our federal leaders should be focused on getting hard-earned money back to consumers and small businesses that didn’t ask for this.”
-State Director Angie Lauritsen
“Small businesses like my restaurant are just trying to make it day by day. It’s deeply discouraging to feel as if Nebraska’s national leaders aren’t hearing us when we share the concerns of what it means to run a business in this current environment. All of our costs keep rising, but incomes aren’t able to keep up. Something has to give.”
